Socially subordinated ethnic minority groups in the United States (African Americans, American Indians, and Hispanics) are underrepresented in evolutionary science careers by orders of magnitude. In addition there is evidence that these groups differentially reject evolutionary science. This project will bring together professional scientists, educators, and other stakeholders to examine how K-12 education reform in evolutionary science can impact these conditions. An outcome of this effort will be to propose subsequent working groups that address the most crucial issues that influence the underrepresentation of minorities in evolutionary science, as well as increase access to overall evolution science literacy in these communities.
