New fossil tells how piranhas got their teeth
Imagine a 3-foot long piranha with razor-sharp teeth -- you probably wouldn't want to meet one. But this is no big fish story. NESCent scientist Wasila Dahdul has teamed up with scientists from Argentina, the US, and Venezuela to describe a cool fossil fish that's related to piranhas. Named Megapiranha paranensis, this previously unknown fossil may explain how piranhas got their distinctive bite.
